Zoos Victoria's 20 Priority Native Threatened Species

Working to ensure that no Victorian terrestrial vertebrate species goes extinct - Not on our watch!

These unique animals are found nowhere but south-eastern Australia.  Tragically, they are being pushed to the brink of extinction by habitat loss, introduced species, infectious diseases, fire and climate change.  Unless people act to save them, they could be lost forever.

Zoos Victoria is committed to restoring viable populations of these species in the wild through captive breeding and reintroduction. We are also working to support recovery teams and raise public awareness to address threatening processes.

Follow the links below to find out what Zoos Victoria is doing and how you can help to save these unique Australians.
