Zoos Victoria works locally and globally to deliver tangible conservation outcomes with two key focus areas: Wildlife Conservation and Community Conservation.
Wildlife Conservation
Within Australia, Zoos Victoria has made a Fighting Extinction Commitment: we will ensure that no Victorian terrestrial vertebrate species becomes extinct. To fulfil this commitment, we are securing threatened species within our care, supporting recovery teams and raising community awareness. Globally, we support in situ conservation programs that work with local communities to achieve broad-based biodiversity conservation outcomes.
Community Conservation
Zoos Victoria plays a leading role in advocacy for wildlife and wild places. Our community conservation campaigns inspire and empower people to take part in our calls to action, resulting in real measurable conservation outcomes within our priority regions.
Our Fighting Extinction watermark was created to help us promote our vision as a zoo-based conservation organisation. The footprints are from an Eastern Barred Bandicoot, an amazing Victorian subspecies that would no longer exist if it wasn't for Zoos Victoria. The recovery program has been instrumental in preserving this unique animal for future generations. The Eastern Barred Bandicoot is a clear reminder of our responsibility to threatened species and the potential for future success in species conservation.
